Stokesley 3s faced Marton Furness 3s in their second game of the season, in what proved to be a valuable learning experience for a developing Stokesley side.

The first half was a tight affair, with both teams creating chances and finding the back of the net. Marton opened the scoring before Matt Donlan brought Stokesley level with a well-taken goal. Marton then regained the lead, but Stokesley responded once again, with Ethan scoring to make it 2–2.

With both sides competing well, the score remained 2–2 at half time and Stokesley went into the break knowing they were very much in the game.

The second half proved more costly for Stokesley. Marton were able to take advantage of winning the ball back and, as the game progressed, extended their lead to eventually run out 5–2 winners.

While the result wasn't what Stokesley were looking for, the game provided plenty of learning points. There were periods where Stokesley showed good hockey and created opportunities, but the key lesson was the need to make more of the ball when in possession. Retaining possession, making better decisions and turning good phases of play into meaningful opportunities will be important areas to focus on in training.

There were also plenty of positives to take. The team continued to compete, showed flashes of quality and, with new additions still settling into the side, there is plenty of scope for the group to develop its understanding and consistency.

With only two games played, this is very much a learning curve for Stokesley 3s. The focus now turns to training, working on the areas highlighted today and building on the positives ahead of next week's game against Darlington 2s

With a number of promising young players joining the squad, Stokesley demonstrated good composure and a clear intent to play attractive, possession-based hockey. The team moved the ball effectively throughout the match, creating opportunities through some excellent build-up play and finishing with four well-crafted goals.
