Stokesley Men’s 2s returned to home turf this weekend, eager to bounce back from last week’s tough away fixture. However, they were once again met with a challenging opponent in Newcastle Medics 2s, a youthful and fit university side that kept the pressure high from the outset.
Stokesley appeared sluggish in comparison to their energetic opponents, struggling to find their rhythm in the early stages. Despite some valiant defending, it was only a matter of time before Newcastle Medics capitalised on a defensive lapse, taking the lead through a well-executed short corner. Just 15 minutes later, a similar situation saw the visitors double their advantage, leaving Stokesley trailing 0-2 at the halftime whistle.
The second half saw a more determined Stokesley side, with a noticeable injection of energy and intent. They fought hard to claw their way back into the match, but luck wasn’t on their side, and it became one of those frustrating afternoons where nothing seemed to click for the young team.
Despite their best efforts, the home side were unable to break down the Medics' defence. The final whistle blew with the scoreline remaining 0-2 in favour of the visitors. It was a performance Stokesley will want to quickly forget as they look ahead to next week and the chance to get their season back on track.
Next game: Newcatle University M3 - AWAY (Saturday 12th October 2024, 15:00 push back)
