Stokesley Hockey Club Helps Inspire the Next Generation at Primary Hockey Skills Festival

Stokesley Hockey Club was proud to partner with local schools and community organisations this week to deliver the very first Primary Hockey Skills Festival - an exciting event designed to introduce young people to hockey and help grow the game across the region.

Held in partnership with local School Games organisers, the festival welcomed eight primary schools and more than 120 children from across the area for a day packed with fun, teamwork and skill development.

Throughout the festival, pupils rotated through a variety of hockey-based activities where they learned key skills including dribbling, passing and shooting. The sessions focused not only on developing hockey ability, but also on building confidence, communication and enjoyment through sport.

The event forms part of a wider effort to reintroduce and strengthen hockey within schools across the Middlesbrough and North Yorkshire area. Encouragingly, several schools have already expressed interest in accessing further resources and exploring how hockey can become a regular part of school sport provision once again.

Community partnerships like this demonstrate the important role local sports clubs can play in supporting youth development, increasing participation in physical activity and creating opportunities for young people to try new sports in a welcoming environment.

A huge thank you goes to the outstanding student leaders from Macmillan Academy, whose enthusiasm and support helped make the day such a success. Their energy, encouragement and leadership were praised throughout the event and helped create a fantastic atmosphere for all involved.

As part of the club’s ongoing commitment to grassroots hockey, free taster sessions are available every Tuesday evening from 6pm–7pm at Macmillan Academy for children aged 6–12 who would like to continue developing their skills and give hockey a try.

The success of the festival highlights the growing appetite for hockey within local schools and communities, and Stokesley Hockey Club is excited to continue supporting the future of the sport across the region.
